DCG's Top Ten Best Movie Trilogies (or Tetralogy) for Geeks Like Us
Sitting here, hiding under a makeshift office otherwise known as my kitchen table, with 5 squares of TP, an almost depleted can of Lysol spray, and half a twix…the left half…I write to you.
Nothing keeps us closer to our geekdom like seeing our favorites played out on the big screen. Here are some of our favorite three (and longer) part movies for Geeks like us.
10. Ghostbusters/II/Afterlife - Yes, it is a trilogy, as we bypass 2016 and look forward to Afterlife in 2020. R.I.P. Egon.
9. Lord of the Rings/Two Towers/Return of the King - All our AD&D memories played out on the big screen. How many hours spent watching the DVD extras.
8. Alien/s/III - Sigorney Weaver kicks ass! The first one was cutting edge. The second, funny, overly quotable, and an action hero movie. The third, interesting, with some flaws. Was there a fourth? “Get away from her, you bitch!”
7. Dark Knight - Despite the Batman voice, the best Batman since Adam West was Christian Bale, hands down. Well written, well acted with the best Joker. We only wish Bale had signed on for more. Otherwise, we’d get Ben Affleck…
6. Spider-Man/II/III - These are the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire films. Tobey was Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Kirsten Dunst will always be Mary Jane Parker, and these films finally showed how good superhero movies could be… except that third one, that maybe would have pushed these higher in our list.
5. Night of the Living Dead/Dawn of the Dead/Day of the Dead - George A Romero created zombies. Not really, but before him there was really nothing mainstream about Z’s. Now, they’re everywhere, and a bit tired out.
4. Star Trek et al. - Holy moly there’s a lot of Trek out there. Why? Because it’s beloved. And, deservedly so. Wrath of Khan is best as Star Trek has a crazy habit of mediocre movie, followed by good, followed by mediorcre, follow by good…
3. Raiders of the Lost Ark/Temple of Doom/Last Crusade - Han Solo with a fedora and a whip battling Nazi’s. Hell yeah! We wanted so many more, but alas, got Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Damn you George Lucas! “Kali MAAAAA!”
2. Back to the Future/II/III - I have a special place in my heart for Michael J Fox, whether he’s Alex P. Keaton, Marty McFly or Scott Howard. I saw Back to the Future with my dad in the theater in ‘85. That was the only movie just the two of us went to and we connected through it. He was a 50’s teen and I an 80’s teen. That Huey Lewis and the News soundtrack didn’t heart, either.
1. Star Wars IV, V & VI - Yesssss, the three that started it all, that got us hooked, with so many quotes, lasting characters, and awe! Thank you George Lucas, we forgive you for all that followed…
Notables that should be on a list:
Avengers et al. (because MCU!); Matrix if only for the first one; Mission Impossible series (except #2); Blade/II/Trinity; Mad Max/Road Warrior/Thunderdome; The Amazing Spider-Man/II/Homecoming (really like Tom Holland and the Spidey Kid/Tony Stark connection); Terminator/Judgement Day/Rise of the Machines; X-Men; Predator et al.; Evil Dead; Jersey Trilogy; Iron Man/I/II/III (because they started the MCU).
What are your top 10?
As always, play more games…and wash your damn hands!
